ACEJMC Reaccreditation Earned

Following an exhausting several days on campus in February, the accreditation site team from the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (ACEJMC) recommended that the Department of Communications receive full reaccreditation for 2015-2021.

This finding was supported by the Accrediting Council at its meeting in Phoenix on May 1, 2015.

This is wonderful news and a testament to the strengths of the Department of Communications. Thank you to everyone who contributed to the accreditation process.

CEPR Recertification Earned

Picture
After its visit to campus in February, the CEPR site visit team recommended recertification for the Department of Communications public relations concentration. The team found that the PR program meets or exceeds the expectations in all inquiry areas.

In May, the PRSA Educational Affairs Committee wrote, "
After careful review and discussion, Educational Affairs concurs with the site visit reviewers' recommendation for recertification by the PRSA Board. This is a strong program with dedicated faculty and a diverse student body, good ties with the professional public relations community and an outstanding internship program, and excellent use of the student-run agency and service-learning projects in the curriculum."

After final review by the PRSA Board, the CEPR recertification was awarded Nov. 7, in the General Assembly at the Public Relations Society of America International Conference in Atlanta. This is the third time the Department of Communications has received CEPR certification. Previous certifications were in 2002 and 2009. There are just 39 other CEPR-recognized programs worldwide. CSUF is among only a handful that have been certified three times.

We
thank our students, staff, and faculty for their support of this process.

"To accredit is to assure basic standards of excellence" - ACEJMC

"Accreditation is a system of voluntary self-assessment and external review of educational institutions and of professional programs offered by those institutions. Accreditation provides an assurance of quality to students, parents, and the public.
In the accrediting process, the performance of educational units is measured against national standards."
The CSUF Department of Communications is one of only about 114 academic programs in higher education to be ACEJMC accredited for excellence in journalism and mass communication education.

CEPR offers "a voluntary program of quality-assurance endorsement..." - CEPR

CEPR endorsement shows that a program is meeting the highest standards for public relations education, and affirms that graduates of the program are prepared to work effectively as communicators in a complex and ever-changing marketplace of ideas. Today, CEPR is “the global standard in public relations education.” The CSUF Department of Communications is one of only about 40 academic programs in the world to have the distinction of CEPR endorsement through the Public Relations Society of America.
